As some of you may have heard Frankie Tovar is in the hospital in Rochester fighting Acute Leukemia. For those of you who don’t know, Joyce Tovar has volunteered at the high school for over 50 years keeping score for basketball and baseball games. Frankie was always with her. We will try to keep you up-to-date with information as we get it. At this time he can not accept flowers or balloons but loves receiving cards and messages.

W-CL-T Joint Board Work Session Minutes
September 2, 2010
The Titonka Consolidated School Board of Directors, Titonka, Counties of Kossuth, Winnebago, Hancock, State of Iowa, met in a joint work session with Woden-Crystal Lake School Board of Directors, September 2, 2010, in the Multipurpose room of the Titonka School.
President Allison Anderson called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Presidents Anderson and Eden, as well as directors Hoffman, Chapin, Bartelt, Phelps, Kluver, Hobbs, and Stohr were present. Superintendent Fonley, Superintendent Widen, Secretary Mogensen, and Secretary Stohr were also present.
Districts’ Financial Projections-President Ron Eden asked members of both boards if anything else needed to be considered before each district took its final steps in entering into new whole grade sharing arrangements. Actual and projected financials were reviewed for both districts. Best and worst case scenarios were presented and board members were allowed to change variables to see how these changes effected projected financial positions. The most up to date Certified Annual Report information for fiscal year 2010 was entered into these scenarios to create projections. These numbers are subject to change until the CAR is finalized.
Staffing-Both districts have filled all positions that were vacant at the end of 09-10 school year.
Shared Staff-Woden-Crystal Lake and Titonka districts are sharing an art teacher, transportation director, and a TAG teacher.
Activities and Events-Both boards agreed to conduct all the annual school events as in the past, including homecoming, dinner theater, prom, and commencement.
Transition Planning-Discussion took place about how school boards and school leaders can help this year be a positive year for all WCLT students and how leadership can help guide students in these transitions. A committee will be formed to make decisions about how best to disperse items such as, but not limited to, trophies, uniforms, and athletic equipment. This committee will be made up of at least one board member from each school board as well as other community members from both Woden-Crystal Lake and Titonka. This committee will be asked to report back to both school boards with plans for these items at a joint meeting in February.
Board members and Superintendents Widen and Fonley discussed transition plans for students attending Forest City and Algona schools in 2011-12. Plans such as school visits and course preparation were brought up as potential tools for making a smooth transition for the effected students. Transition plans will be worked on throughout the year by both schools and more discussion will take place at the February W-CL-T joint board meeting.
